  • Class 6 Reverse Advent

    Fri 30 Nov 2018

    Hello,

It has been another busy week in class 6. The children have been creating their own 'perfect future' by designing inventions to carry out tasks that they don't like doing! We had an interesting range of machines invented, from a litter picking bot and a machine that cleans the cat litter tray to a  'snack-o-matic!'

This week we had a chat in class about how important it is, especially now the weather is turning colder, to think about people that aren't as lucky as we are and that might be homeless. We have decided to do a reverse advent calendar this December, which involves us bringing items in that can be donated to a charity that supports homeless people. It would be amazing if the children of class 6 could bring in one donation each during December, which we can put in our box to be handed over to the charity at the end of term. I have given the children a list of suitable donations and have also put the link below.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the first window of the advent calendars tomorrow!

  • My Perfect Future

    Wed 28 Nov 2018

As part of this weeks topic based work, we've been thinking about what machines we would like to see in the future to make our lives easier. Here are three ideas from some of the children in class.

  • Celebration Friday

  • Robot or Ronot!

    Fri 23 Nov 2018

'Robots are good for us because they help us with jobs.' 'Robots can be good for us because they can help disabled people with tasks.' 'Robots can be used to detect danger.'

'Robots are not good for us because we need to learn to do things for ourselves.' Robots are bad for us because we wouldn't do any exercise if robots did everything for us.' 'Robots could be faulty!'

These are just some of the arguments that the children came up with in class 6 this week when we were debating the question; 'are robots good for us?' We were also debating what is a robot and what isn't. Traffic lights certainly got the children thinking!

We have been fascinated by the different roles robots can carry out. The link below is to a website we looked at in class showing some amazing robots.

In English we have been focusing on direct speech and how to punctuate it correctly. This is very tricky and I'm very impressed with how the children have persevered.

Remember you need to have read at least three times at home and have an adult record this in your planner to get a reading raffle ticket on Monday.

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Oh and here are a few examples of the wonderful robot posters that were designed this week:

  • Our heroes

    Fri 16 Nov 2018

Dressing as our heroes today was a great chance to hear all about the people the children admire. In class 6 we had mums, dads, siblings, grandparents, dance teachers, music teachers, footballers, rugby players and boxers to name some!

Our topic work this week has focused on magnetic force. We were exploring the question; can magnets float? We discovered that yes they certainly can! We had lots of fun with our 'scrapyard challenge,' sorting materials into magnetic and non-magnetic. We were also fascinated by the fact that the earth is one big magnet!

In English this week we have been learning about diary writing and the features that can make our diaries more interesting and exciting. The children started writing a diary entry from the point of view of Hogarth when he is quietly fishing and then all of a sudden sees the Iron Man at the top of the cliff!

Don't forget to have a go on Spelling Shed over the weekend if you get chance! There is also Purple Mash and Times Tables Rock Stars if you are looking for activities.

Remember school planners on Monday so I can give out the raffle tickets to our star readers.

    Have a chillaxing* weekend

    Mrs Sawyer
