  • Meet the Mayor

    Wed 07 Feb 2018
Our Porchester Parliament members felt very privileged this morning during their visit to meet the Mayor in the council chambers. We learnt lots about what is involved in being a Mayor and we debated the topic of litter and recycling. We've come away with lots of ideas about how we can make an impact in our local community and further afield - watch this space...
  • Mouthwatering Menus

    Wed 07 Feb 2018

Did you know that the Romans brought apples and pears to Britain, as well as many other foods that we still eat?

Class 7 have been creating menus using foods available in Roman times. How about a piece of Bay leafed stuffed salmon? Maybe they could tempt you with some beef stuffed with coriander seeds, fennel seeds, pine kernels and herbs? Or perhaps you're feeling brave enough to try 'fish custard'?

  • Clock Watching

We've been looking at aspects of Roman Life that still influence us today, and realised that the numerals we see on some clocks are Roman Numerals, so we decided to make our own Roman Numeral clock faces.

Class 4 have been enjoying looking at different pictures on Pobble 365.  Today we looked at a stunning photograph of an ant on a leaf, floating on water.  The children had to improve the sentence 'The ant floated on the leaf.'

Just look what they came up with!  Well done, Class 4

  • Editing

    Fri 02 Feb 2018

A demanding part of writing is editing, the skill of being able to go back through your work to spot and correct mistakes, make improvements and think about what you haven't put in your writing that you Should!

Today Class 4 helped each other by editing their work together.  It was wonderful to see them persevering, being resilient, positive, friendly, supporting and inspiring together.

  • Human sundial

    Thu 01 Feb 2018

Upper school have been really fortunate with the weather today, as today was the day we decided to make our Humas Sundials.  We drew our shadows at 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 and 1.00. We tried for 2.00 but the clouds had other ideas for us.

We noticed that our shadows got shorter til midday, then started to get longer again.

Some of us had a few problems with the shadows of the school covering our sundials.

Great fun was had by all, despite the cold, windy weather!
