Salt dough fossils!

Our recent topic question in lower school has been ‘What’s beneath our feet?’ and today the children considered how fossils are formed whilst making their own out of salt dough!

We mixed two cups of flour, one cup of salt and half a cup of coffee grounds with cold coffee to make a rock-like dough. The children then pressed a shell into their ‘rocks’ leaving an imprint. We have left the fossils to set and will explore the fossilisation process further next week.
