July 20, 2017: The Laughing Policegirl
It's almost the end of term. We've completed our topics. We thought we'd have a little bit of fun making a video, and we'd thought we challenge you too... Can you watch this without laughing (and without having a tune in your head for the rest of the day)? Wondering what we've made? It's based on an old fashioned arcade machine that played the tune whilst a puppet police figure moved around looking like it was laughing. We think that E has done a great job of being the laughing puppet.

In our English this week we have been looking at instructional writing, and the class have focussed on providing detailed instructions to a trainee Egyptian embalmer! Listen to their guide for someone who is new to the art of mummifying an Egyptian Pharaoh.

February 20, 2017: Volcano Day
After weeks and weeks of construction, today we made our volcanoes erupt using water, washing liquid, red paint, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We had great fun watching each volcano bubble up and burst over the side of the crater. In fact, we had so much fun we thought we'd turn the eruption into a video using iMovie, a SpecialFX app, and a greenscreen app.

February 7, 2017: Gifted and Talented
I gave the Gifted and Talented group a challenge, they were separated into two equal groups and then had a short brief to show the history of Porchester Junior School. Both groups decided to use the iPads to make movies, but went about recording their research in different ways. Each group then presented their findings to the whole school during an assembly. I am very proud of all of you for the work you put in, well done! Please find the two movies below and keep an eye out for their next project, Dream Poems!

Class 7 have made a video to explain how sounds reach our ears, and how we can hear them.

July 20, 2016: Movie Time
Over the past term the children in class 7 and class 3 have been planning special film projects in their computing lessons. Every pupil in each class has been involved in one way or another, as we initially began with a discussion about what type of film should be made. The children watched some examples that children had created in previous years - the brilliant silent movie films, some examples of greenscreen films, and also how SpecialFX could be used within a film. As a class they each came up with the idea for science fiction films (at this point Mr. W quietly shook his head thinking this would be too difficult to do). In class 7 they chose Lewis to storyboard their ideas and put it together to tell a story, and then began to write a script involving a range of characters. A director was chosen (Mollie) who then had the role of listening to budding actors audition before selecting a group of children to take on the roles in the movie. Other children were given other roles as part of the project; there was a prop master who needed to make sure we had the items mentioned in the script. there was a cameraperson whose job was to record all the scenes for the movie. there were editors who would have to put all the scene clips together, cut bits out, add extra sound effects and make the film look awesome and of course there were 'extras' who would be needed within some of the scenes of the movie. Well, it's taken a little longer than we anticipated - mainly due to other events that have taken our computing time away - but I'm pleased to say they've completed their masterpieces.

July 20, 2016: Gifted and Talented
The gifted and talented group have worked extremely hard for their final project. All the children have had an input. They came up with a concept to write and star in a play and have shown their skills in witting, directing, filming and editing. I was really keen that they also showed their individual talents and I think this comes across with the pianists, dancing, footballers, ICT skills and acting. They all worked well as a team and I'm proud of each of you for your patience and resilience in making your movie.
