December 29, 2014: Porchester Wins National Award!
Porchester Junior School has won Downing Street’s approval in a national award scheme to improve disadvantaged pupils’ learning. This is in recognition of the attainment and progress of our pupils since 2011. In our letter from David Laws MP he writes: ‘I would like to congratulate your staff, governors, parents and pupils for their hard work and success, and thank you for your leadership in making such a difference to the future success of your pupils. It is clear that you and your staff have provided your pupils with a good start in life and prepared them well for secondary school.’ The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and paid to schools to provide additional educational support to those pupils who need it most, narrowing the achievement gap between them and their
peers. Mr Cullen said that everyone at Porchester was delighted with the news. He said, “We believe that we have effectively used our pupil premium money, having a clear focus on our objectives and putting it to a variety of different uses. We have not simply concentrated on improving academic achievement but also on raising the self-esteem of the children and improving their attitude.” Read the full letter here.
