January 21, 2015: Young Voices information
Young Voices information Thursday 22nd January 2015 Weather We are keeping a very close eye on the weather and will keep you informed of any last minute changes. Clearly we will only take the children to Sheffield if it is safe to do so. This decision will be made, at the very latest, early tomorrow morning. Food and drink Just a reminder to say that all children need two packed lunches. One for lunch and one for tea. If your child is eligible for free school meals the school will be able to provide a pack-up for lunch but not for tea. Please also ensure your child has enough to drink. No fizzy drinks or glass bottles please. Clothing Normal school uniform along with their Young Voices T-Shirt or plain white T-Shirt / polo shirt. They may wear their white T-Shirts to school or if you prefer they can put it in their bag and change into this at the venue. Departure and arrival times The coaches will be leaving school at approximately 12:15pm. Expected time of arrival, back in Carlton, is 10:30pm. In view of the current parking difficulties around school the coaches will drop the children off at the Punch Bowl, 214 Porchester Road. We will keep you informed by text message as to a more precise time of arrival. Clearly we won’t know our exact arrival time until we have left the venue. Drop off point The Punch Bowl, 214 Porchester Road, Carlton

December 29, 2014: Porchester Wins National Award!
Porchester Junior School has won Downing Street’s approval in a national award scheme to improve disadvantaged pupils’ learning. This is in recognition of the attainment and progress of our pupils since 2011. In our letter from David Laws MP he writes: ‘I would like to congratulate your staff, governors, parents and pupils for their hard work and success, and thank you for your leadership in making such a difference to the future success of your pupils. It is clear that you and your staff have provided your pupils with a good start in life and prepared them well for secondary school.’ The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and paid to schools to provide additional educational support to those pupils who need it most, narrowing the achievement gap between them and their
peers. Mr Cullen said that everyone at Porchester was delighted with the news. He said, “We believe that we have effectively used our pupil premium money, having a clear focus on our objectives and putting it to a variety of different uses. We have not simply concentrated on improving academic achievement but also on raising the self-esteem of the children and improving their attitude.”
