Well done everyone:-) Posted with Blogsy

November 18, 2015: Christmas newsletter and diary dates
Here is our Christmas newsletter.

November 16, 2015: 'Onesie’ day to help raise money for Diabetes UK.
Ellie, age 7 and a pupil at the school has a family member with Type 1 Diabetes and along with her mum wanted to do something to raise money and awareness. As well as the ‘onesie’ day which raised £160, Ellie also did a sponsored 7 mile walk in the Peak District which raised £360! Ellie said, “I was really happy to see everyone at school in ‘onesies’- I was really happy!” It was widely agreed at Porchester Junior School that Head Teacher Graham Cullen, looked the silliest in his Batman ‘onesie’. He said, “It was great to see the school taking part in the fundraising, and for such a good cause. It has helped the staff to talk about Diabetes in a meaningful way to pupils who now have a greater understanding. We are grateful to everyone that played a part to raise the money to help Ellie in her quest.” World Diabetes Day is held on November 14th each year and says its aims are ‘education and prevention’ of the condition.

November 13, 2015: Good work in onesies today
Well done everyone ! Posted with Blogsy

November 12, 2015: Remembrance day
All children made and planted peace poppies as part of our Remembrance Day ceremony. Mr Martwich, our school caretaker, looked very smart in his military uniform and splendid array of medals. Mr Martwich served in the paratroopers for 35 years before seeing the light and coming to work at Porchester. :-)

November 1, 2015: Do you have an attitude of gratitude?
Our new value this half term is APPRECIATION. Mr Cullen will be starting this off with a thought provoking assembly on the importance of gratitude. A wonderful and fun activity to do is to keep a gratitude list which is simply making a daily list of all the things for which we are grateful. Get a notebook or open a computer file to begin keeping track of the many experiences of joy and gratitude you experience in the day. This can include things we often take for granted such as clean running water, hot shower, soap, a warm bed, food in your fridge, a washing machine etc etc.

October 24, 2015: Award for resilience
What a great way to end this half term. This award was given to a year 3 for showing great resilience ! Well done to everyone for working so well with our our values this term. Posted with Blogsy

October 21, 2015: Skipping with Dan the Skipping Man!
Following a very successful skipping day in the summer term of 2014 we have invited back Dan the Skipping Man! Dan The Skipping Man will be at the school on Friday 23rd October teaching amazing skipping skills and tricks to all the children. All skipping ropes are provided but if your child would like to bring their own they are very welcome to do so. This event is free of charge but if you’d like to buy one of Dan’s solar lit skipping ropes he will be selling these at £5.00 each. Just send the money into school in a clearly marked envelop and we will sort this out for you.

October 16, 2015: Fundraising for Diabetes UK: wear A Onesie To School – Friday 13th November
Fundraising for Diabetes UK: wear A Onesie To School – Friday 13th November
As it is World Diabetes Day on 14th November, we are inviting pupils to come to school in their onesies and raise money for the charity. There are 29,000 children living with type 1 diabetes in the UK and we would love it if you could help us to support this charity. Please don’t worry if your child doesn’t have a onesie, they can come along in non-school uniform. If you would like to take part, we are asking for a £1.00 donation for the charity. Furthermore, one of our Year 3 pupils, Ellie Ross, is taking part in a sponsored 7 mile walk in the Peak District for Diabetes UK on 26th October. If you’d like to support this worthwhile cause donations can be made at https://justgiving.com/Ellieross07
