Emergency Closure of the School
Very occasionally, for example as the result of extreme weather conditions, we may be forced to close the school.
Please note that we only close in extreme circumstances, as we understand how disruptive this can be for you, and we will always try to co-ordinate the decision with Standhill Infants School
These are the contact arrangements we have in place to tell you if the school is closed.
We have 3 ways of telling you:-
1. The best place to find out if the school is open is here!!! If there is a closure it will be announced on the main page of the website, first. www.porchester.notts.sch.uk/website Check from about 7 in the morning.
2. We will send you a text to the mobile phone number that you have registered with the school's management system. Please make sure that this information is kept up to date.
3. We will contact Radio Trentfm and Radio Nottingham, if the closure is due to the weather. Please note that their 'snow lines' become very busy and it may take some time for the announcement to be broadcast.

Survey of Parental Views About The School
In February 2009, a survey was carried out to find out parents' views on a wide range of the school's activities. We had over 50 replies to this and may I thank all those who replied as it gives us a clear view of what we are doing well and areas where we could do better.
Parents were, overall very positive about the various aspects of school life that were surveyed.
They told us that:-
-
our school has a good reputation locally
-
they are you made to feel welcome when visiting the school
-
our school has a caring attitude
-
there is a good partnership between them, the school and their child
-
their children are generally happy at school
-
they found our new text messaging system useful
-
we encourage care and respect for others
-
we try to ensure high standards of pupil behaviour
-
they feel able to talk to their child’s teacher when they need to
-
the school provides a safe and secure environment
-
our school deals with issues fairly
-
we encourage pupils to reach high standards of achievement
-
pupils generally get on well with each other at school
There was a high level of satisfaction with:-
- The quality of the curriculum
- The quality of teaching and learning
-
The quality of care, guidance and support
-
The arrangements made when your child joined the school
-
The school’s support for children with special educational needs
-
The number and variety of after school activities
-
The school’s website
Parents also said they would support activities provided during the summer holidays.
Suggestions for areas to improve were:
- safety on the roads surrounding the school

The overall result of the analysis of these views is that there is a high level of satisfaction with the quality of provision.

Porchester Junior School Centenary
I have been carrying out some research in the County Archives about the history of the school and have discovered that it was founded on the 9th October 1905. It was housed in a Weslyan Chapel on Porchester Road until November of that year when it moved into an ‘Iron Building’. The school moved from these temporary premises into the present building in May 1909 and it is after this date, following the completion of all the tests, that we are going to use for our centenary celebration. There is a separate part of the site dedicated to the centenary:- www.porchester.notts.sch.uk/history

I am really pleased to see this website up and running and will encourage my three to get involved. I am particularly looking forward to keeping track of homework - like Loree - as this is an area in which us parents feel in the dark!!!!

Congratulations to all involved with the new website - especially Mr Widdowson.
The site looks great and I am sure as more pupils use it to post book reviews etc the more parents will read it and become aware of all the information on it.
Looking forward to seeing the development of the site over the next school year.
