What's in a healthy lunchbox?

Ninety-nine out of every 100 packed lunches being eaten by primary school children are reported to be unhealthy and failing to meet nutritional standards according to the BBC News.

So what should a healthy lunch contain and what foods should be left out?

According to advice from the Food Standards Agency,a healthy packed lunch should include:

• Meat, fish or a dairy source of protein

• Starchy carbohydrate, such as a wholegrain sandwich, to provide energy

• At least one portion each of a fruit and vegetable or salad

• Water or milk to drink, but diluted fruit juice and yoghurt drinks or smoothies are acceptable

To read more and find out what should NOT be in a lunch box follow this link to the BBC News Website

Do you think that the school's Healthy Eating Policy should be applied to lunchboxes?

I think mums and dads should have more help to think of fun things to put in lunchboxes that are healthy too for example cucumber sticks and olives

I think it is very intresting to find out about healthy stuff

cheese sandwichs are good, with bananas or other fruit crisp and a drink.!

I agree with Kimberly but I think you should have a drink, a peace of fruit and some thing sweet and a sandwich that's fair isn't it?

a healty lunch box should contain some fruit some dairy produce like cheese or yoghurt and a healthy drink

I think we should all have healty lunches but be able to have at least 1 thing that isn't as healthy as others

you should have a little bit of unhealthy food in your lunchbox but you should have healthy things too

if your mum or dad packs your lunch, ask them to pack a healthy lunch that includes fruit ,wholemeal bread and some protien like cheese.

Everyones lunch box should be healthy.

I think as long as we have two helthythigsin our lunchboxes we should be aloud to eat what we want but no chocolates or sweets.
