Christmas is Here again...

It's almost that time of year again.

December 1st sees the start of the Advent Calendar on the website. Every day, from December 1st until December 25th, we'll post an article with a link to a website, activity, or information related to Christmas.

Eco Maths Investigations

As the final day of our eco week, class 6 maths group have been trying to answer the question "Is the temperature rising over the years?"

We used some data from the MetOffice (those lovely people who put the weather forecasts on the TV), 

 and each child produced a chart of the average monthly temperature of a particular year between 1979 and 2008. 

 Once the charts were created, we began to stick them together to make one very large chart (this photo is of only part of the chart - it was too long for the classroom!)

- and then tried to answer the question "Is the temperature rising over the years?"

Writing Instructions

Class 1 have been using Comic Life for the first time to give a series of instructions. We chose baking bread - and used the images from the Pictopus website to help us. See Jessica and Kira's instructions below.

(We need to do a little bit of work about where the title goes - but for a first attempt in 45 minutes they did really well) 

Worms!

Lower school have been learning all about the wonderful job that worms do to help with recycling. We had fun finding out what items they like to recycle, and those that they don't, and then we were able to look at some real worms close up. It was great.

Independent Research

Well done to everyone in class six who has been working hard on their research about animals. Some of them have been working in their books, some on paper, and a few have used Google Docs to create their report.

Class 6 had a great time using the visualiser to take photos of each piece of work before adding them to animoto, then choosing a suitable piece of music from the audio network website..

Issues with Posting Articles

We are suffering from technical issues at the moment that are preventing staff from creating articles for the website. We are trying to work out what the cause of these issues are, but until we have identified, and corrected, the problem there will be very few articles written by staff from the school.

Sorry for the lack of new material on the school website.

• Did you settle down on Friday night to watch a host of celebrities providing you with an evening of great, FREE entertainment for Children In Need2009?

• Did you want to help the children who were mentioned in the short video clips?

• Did you ACTUALLY make a donation to help them?

If you didn't, don't worry because it's not too late - you can still donate, or you could go and buy the official Children In Need single - by the Peter Kay All Star Animated Band. That way, you'll feel great by donating, and have a great song to listen too as well (or you could buy it as a Christmas present for someone in your family).

Class 6 Coordinates Homework

For your homework this week you need to be thinking more about co-ordinates.

Using the first sheet, can you put the following items into the correct place;

• Treasure Chest #1 at (L,7)
• Treasure Chest #2 at (D,4)
• Pot #1 at (D,7)
• Pot #2 at (L,2)
• Pirate at (I,5)
• Gold bars at (F,1)

Remember that when giving the position as a coordinate, you go ACROSS first, and then UP.

As an extension, you can also print out both sheets and play the coordinates game with someone at home.

Anti-Bullying Posters

As mentioned in this post, this week is Anti-Bullying week. You can make your own posters to make people aware of bullying if you visit the Bullying.co.uk website and try their poster creator.  It's simple to use, and once you've made a poster you can put it in their gallery, and also grab the code to put into your own learning space if you want to.

In class 6 we have had a discussion about what litter actually is.

Are Fish in Danger?
