 - have a great, and safe, evening of fun.

Trick or Treat?

 Are you planning to go out this Halloween evening and "Trick or Treat"? If you are please make sure you follow some simple rules to stay safe, and keep yourself trouble free;

• Don't go out to trick or treat alone, make sure you are with a responsible adult
• Plan where you are going carefully, using familiar, well lit areas
• Never enter a strange house while trick or treating
• Don't eat any treats offered until they're examined by a responsible adult
• Throw away any unwrapped or tampered-with treats
• Trick or treat early - most people won't like to be disturbed late in the evening
• Respect 'no trick or treating' signs displayed by householders who choose not to celebrate Halloween
• Be polite at all times when trick or treating
• Do not get carried away with tricks - police have warned that young people who throw eggs on Halloween risk having a criminal record

If you are going out dressed up make sure that your costume

• Is fire resistant – you can find this information on the item's label
• Ensure the costume has proper eye holes, so that you can see where you are going clearly
• Use reflective tape or glow-in-the-dark jewellery, so that you can be seen in the dark

And finally, if you are creating Halloween pumpkins

• Don't carve the pumpkin yourself. Make sure there is a responsible adult present
• Consider a battery-powered electric candle instead of a real flame

So, if you are heading out to "Trick or Treat" this Halloween,
 - have a great, and safe, evening of fun.

More New Features!

We've added two new features to the website this week that we think are great.

The first can be found in both the Online Tools area of the website, and also on the right sidebar of each of your learning spaces - it's an online image editor called Pixlr. 

 This application will let you create images that you can then put in your learning spaces. You can also use it to save a screen grab (with the PRTSCR key) for something that you want to record as evidence of your learning within your learning space.

The second new addition is the CBBC newsround reader. 

 This is a handy little feature that reads out the news items from six categories; Newsround Headlines, UK News, World News, Sports News, Animal News and Showbiz. The navigation is really simple too - just a few boxes to click in, or press enter when a blue border surrounds the category you want.

Be creative

Here's a lovely idea for half term - why not write a story. Not just any story though, a story with beautiful artwork included within it, and a story where you could invite others (friends or family) to add more to the story.

Storybird is a new website that allows just that. Ask your parents to register you (because you are under 13, you are not allowed to sign up yourself) and then you can look at the fantastic artwork that is available and make a story from the choice of images.

You can then invite your family and friends to continue your story, before you decide to "publish" it (there is an option that will let you put your story into your learning space)

Book Reviews

Class 6 have been listening to Roald Dahl's excellent story 'Matilda' in class over the past half term in class. 

Once we finished reading it we also watched the film to compare the similarities and differences between the book and the film. 

Today we were writing book reviews about Matilda.
