Armed Forces Day

Are you visiting Wollaton Hall and Park this weekend to join the celebrations for Armed Forces Day? Celebrate and honour the UK's Armed Forces and veterans, past, present and future.

There will be a military showcase including the Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team, the Tigers Freefall Skydiving Team, a fly past, military bands, field gun and infantry displays. There'll also be clay pigeon laser shooting, paintball and a virtual reality gaming complex. 

You can also visit the Veterans Marquee where you can meet Veterans young and old, visit their displays and hear their stories. There is an interactive exhibition titled 'We Were There' that honours the contribution made by the ethnic minorities to Britain's Armed Forces. Take a WWII Wollaton Tour - costumed guides will take you on a special tour of Wollaton Hall to learn about the people who lived, worked, were billeted or POWs at Wollaton. The WWII Living History camps let you dress up and handle collections, and try the children's assault course. or view the 16th Lancers Living History cavalry display

There is also 'From Nottingham to Normandy' - an exhibition in the Yard Gallery celebrating the service of the 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment, based at Wollaton Park during WWII.

School Council Discussions 18/6/09

I know it has been a while since School Council but this is because of very exciting events such as Half Terms, our exciting Snibston Science Park School Trip and also educational swimming lessons. 

Anyway, in School Council this week we had a very specially welcomed guest, the chair of the Porchester School kitchen, Mrs Brodsky. We had Mrs Brodsky to talk about our school's food.

People have not been eating as much food as they could be eating especially their pudding which has been offered at lunchtime. If you don't like pudding bring your own food if you can't just don't have one.

In future we will be holding sessions where you taste the school dinners and your family and freinds will be very welcome to watch you try some pretty delicious foods.

This will be perfect if you are ravenous.

Answering some questions...

An article from Mr. Widdowson.

It was great to be back in the classroom today teaching my class for a while. As you can imagine, they had lots of questions that they were desperate to ask me, and for the rest of school here are some of my answers.

1. I am hoping to be back at work full time once the new term begins in September. In the meantime, I will be appearing more and more in school until the end of this term as I build up my strength and stamina.

2. My serious illness was the complete collapse of an artery within my heart, that then resulted in a heart attack. I have been operated on, and have a small metal tube (a 'stent') now placed in my artery that has repaired the collapse.

3. I was awake during the operation, and spoke to the surgeon whilst he made a hole in my wrist and fed a tube up my arm and into my heart.

4. Yes, I could feel the tube moving around.

5. Yes, I have missed school. It has been driving me crazy being stuck at home not able to do anything!

I'd also like to thank all the children, parents, and staff who sent cards and messages whilst I have been ill. They were just what I needed to cheer me up, and make me smile.
