On the left side of
every page within the school website we have introduced a new graphic - the "report abuse" button. This button, when pressed, takes you to a website that tracks, and tackles, abuse through the use of modern technology.
If you use a messaging service - like MSN, or google talk, or Yahoo messenger, or others - you may enjoy chatting to your friends when you are sat at home. Being online is great for keeping in touch, but sometimes things happen which can make you upset. People may say nasty things to you which upset you, or you may see something that you don’t like.
If this happens, you must remember that it’s not your fault.
- ALWAYS TELL A TRUSTED ADULT straight away if you are upset or worried about something that has happened online.
- Remember to try and SAVE ANY MESSAGES that have upset you so you can show them to who you tell - they will be able to help, and they will be able to give you good advice about what else you can do. Never worry about getting in trouble - you aren’t the one who has done anything wrong.
- If you don’t want to talk to a trusted adult, you may want to tell someone else about how you feel. The "report abuse" is there for you.
- Your report goes straight to CEOP - the Child Explotation and Online Protection Centre. CEOP is run by police officers, social workers, counselors, and investigators.
The "report abuse" can be used if you feel uncomfortable with something you have seen on a computer or on a mobile phone,
CEOP works hard to protect children and young people all over the UK and the world. Any time spent on hoax reports is time spent away from helping those really are in trouble. CEOP staff can track hoax reports, so please don’t waste our time and yours with tricks or pranks.
